Who is the true God? Who are the children of the true God?
Hosea 6:6 says, “For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.” And verse 3 says, “Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” John 17:3 says, “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
Who is the true God? Who are the sons of the true God? Why are they called true? According to the Bible, the true God is the one who created the heavens and the earth and who recorded the 66 books from Genesis to Revelation in the New Testament. However, the Bible also reveals in Isaiah 14:12-15, Ezekiel 28, and 2 Thessalonians 2:4 that there is a false god. This false god is the serpent (Gn 3), called the devil, or Satan, and the dragon (Rv 12:9, Rv 20:2, Rv 13:1-2). This serpent was created by God, as recorded in Genesis 3, but it was banished and became Satan for being proud and wanting to be like God. This serpent was the one that deceived Adam and Eve. Therefore, in order to distinguish Himself from this entity, God calls himself the true God.
The archangel, or the guardian cherub, betrayed its Creator, the true God. As a result of that spirit that betrayed (the cherub that betrayed) Adam and Eve were deceived and also betrayed the true God. Adam and Eve went to the devil with all the creation that they had received from the true God as an inheritance. The true God who created the heavens and the earth had to leave the world He created due to Adam and the spirit’s betrayal. Satan ruled over the earth, opposing God for 6,000 years. His opposition is like that of a hostile criminal condemning the innocent (적반하장(賊反荷杖). However, the Creator of the heavens and the earth is the true God, and His true Son is Jesus Christ. This is why God says that He desires acknowledgment of Him rather than burnt offerings and that eternal life is knowing the Son of the true God (refer to Hos 6:6, Jn 17:3).
Let’s examine the sons of the true God by looking into His promises from 2,600 years ago (Jer 31), from Jesus’ words from 2,000 years ago (Mt 13), and from the events of Revelation (Rv 14) that occur today, 2,000 years later.
About 2,600 years ago, in Jeremiah 31, God made known that two types of seeds will be sown. About 2,000 years ago, in Matthew 13, He made known that these two types of seeds were sown. Today, 2,000 years later, God has shown that the firstfruits in Revelation 14 are harvested and established as God’s new nation. These fruits, the 144,000 of the 12 tribes, are the sons of God like Jesus who are born of His seed, which is the secret of the kingdom of heaven (Lk 8:11, Mt 13:11, 38). James 1:18 says that they are born through the Word of truth. Truth is God’s Word (Jn 17:17), so they are people born of the true God. They are born of His seed of the Word.
The true God is Spirit, and those who receive the Word of God are called “gods” and “offspring of God” (Jn 10:35, Acts 17:29). They are reborn of the seed of God’s Word (1 Pt 1:23) and are the children of the true God. Even Jesus, who was born of the seed of the true God, is called the Word in 1 Jn 1:1, because he was born through the Word. The offspring of God are called “offspring” because they are born of God. This is the same as John 1:13, which says the children of God are those born not of natural descent nor of human decision but born of God.
Even if one says, “I believe in God” or “I believe in Jesus,” or attends church fervently without missing service, or has been a believer for a long time, he is not a child of God if he is not born of the true God’s seed. He is merely someone who attends church. Why is a person born of God’s Word called a child of God? In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (Jn 1:1). Because the Word from the beginning is God, those who are born of the Word from the beginning are sons of God. Furthermore, those who are born of God’s seed, which is the Word, are also the Word, just like God and Jesus. This is a child of the Word. Likewise, those born of the devil’s seed are the children of the devil.
Two types of seeds were sown 2,000 years ago during Jesus’ time (Mt 13:24-25). Today, during the era of harvest, those who are born of God’s seed are harvested to God’s nation, while those who are born of the devil’s seed go to the devil’s nation and are burned (Mt 13:30, Rv 14:14-20). Believers must check through the Bible which seed they are born of. The one born of the devil’s seed will have the actions of the devil (persecution, curses, lies) and those born of God’s seed will have the actions of God (love, forgiveness, blessing).
Because the true God is peace and love, God’s Son Jesus also proclaimed peace and love, and greeted with “Shalom.” The devil (one who loves dispute) is dispute itself and therefore declares war. War is neither love nor peace; it is conflict. Anyone who sees and hears but still cannot distinguish is someone with a dead spirit. We are love and peace. Shalom.
